Watched 'District 9' last night: awesome! I love that this is not Hollywood! It's set in South Africa and is so well done that I just have to say how brilliant I thought it was. At first I wasn't so comfortable with the mockumentary style, as it's not my favourite thing, but it just went on to become such a nicely understated and better movie than ( Read more... )

This collection was gathered for adventures_in sci-fi Revisiting Day and all of these authors are worth noting for their slant towards the gay/gender issues or (particularly in one case, whose story I've mentioned isn't gay at all), 'different' peoples who inhabit the stories I'm recommending here.

( Is it coincidence that all the authors here are women, bar one - and his novels are the non-gay/gender issue type? I wonder. Judge for yourself! )

Watched this on dvd the other morning in my sickbed. The two gay leads were very nice, I must say, and there were some lovely scenes with them. I love how Italian families seem to be; although I'm sure it must be quite stifling at times, they are wonderfully family-oriented.
